SEO Houston:  The Best HOUSTON SEO company? 

One thing to keep in mind when doing search engine optimization is to always include a geographic indicator.  Better to focus on a smaller market and dominate it, than aim for the moon and never get any traffic.  Without traffic, your site is just a pretty site.   Lonely sites don’t make money.

For example, my Texas SEO company is just that, a Texas-based SEO company….however, in reality I can help anyone in the US get better organic search engine placement.

However, the internet is a big, big place and while the appeal of the internet is global (or at least regional) begin to think smaller…like your home city. 

 For example, I’m in Austin, Texas…but today someone Google’d “SEO Houston“.  I’m getting more traffic from outside my home city of Austin…even though “Austin SEO Company” is kinda the theme of www.jakerbaker.com.  

 But I’ll get over it.  A lead is a lead.

Notice the graphic:  Someone google’d something brief and succinct.  “SEO Houston“.   Notice they included their city….because-truth be told-someone in Houston, Texas is looking for a local HOUSTON seo company.  People in Houston would probably prefer to get their SEO from a Houston company than a firm out of Cleveland.

Just saying.

So as you track your website “hits” notice where the action is actually coming from.   And then blog accordingly.  If you’re getting action from “SEO Houston”, blog towards that subject.   Or if you are a dentist and you’re getting traffic from “Austin kid’s dentists” then go where the action is…..overtime, you might even launch a seperate website just for the the topic “Austin Kid’s Dentists.”   It’s better to have a waiting room full of kids than a waiting room full of empty chairs.

Sometimes you have to let Google tell you what you need to be instead of demanding they deliver what you want. No matter what the “SEO guru’s” guarantee–SEO is more about trial and error and patience than getting over-night results.  It took me nearly 3 years to get consistent page one rankings for my Texas mortgage company, www.mylendingplace.com.   3 years!  

Did it take me that long to get traffic and leads.  No way!  I got leads and closed mortgage loans within the first 3 months.  But it was slow at first.  Sometimes it’s still slow…that’s called reality. 

At first I got traffic (and closed lots of mortgages) from searches like “Texas Refinance” than I did from searches like “Texas Mortgage“.   In fact, I’m still trying to get consistent page range for “mortgage Texas“…but keep in mind, there’s 106 MILLION other people who have the same goal.  (Texas Refinance “only” has 14M competitive pages, btw).

You’ll have the same SEO mountains to climb…so be willing to go with a secondary keyword phrase and dominate it than act like a baby and demand page one for your exact keyword.  But remember, there’s always PPC for the babies.  And much like a new parent, when you get the PPC bills in the mail you’ll wake up every 3 hours and cry.  PPC is fast and quick and expensive.   Organic SEO is slow, affordable and more suited for the smaller companies who have budgets that rhyme with ” one thousand or less per month.” :)

Because, after all, do I really care if I get a call/lead from someone trying to refinance a texas home loan vs get a texas mortgage?   

Not really.

Sometimes life gives us what we need, not what we want. 

Taking the internet is sorta like taking anything….you got to break it down to measurable pieces. And start with cities. So if you’re a Texas Company, that does business all over the state, consider focusing on your city first and then branching out.   Be willing to be Dallas Texas Mortgage Company instead of a Texas Mortgage Company.

Back to my  ”SEO Houston” graphic:    Notice, how almost everything is geared towards HOUSTON SEO in this blog.  The blog title is Houston SEO, the images are named Houston Austin Dallas SEO…why am I doing this???…because my research is showing me that I’m getting more traffic from “SEO HOUSTON” than “Austin SEO“…I’m going with Google vs. pouting that I’m not on the first page for Texas SEO Company.

But SEO Houston 15M pages.  So the fact that I’m ranking for this is pretty good actually.

It’s funny, I’m getting more action from a more competitive keyword phrase “SEO Houston” than a less competitive phrase, “Texas SEO Company.”   Gotta love SEO.   See how SEO is a process, not a one-time event?

Update your site a lot.
Track what’s working
Build on what’s working.  (Start with Cities or a less competitive keyword phrase)
Slowly, overtime, you’ll be on the first page for the keywords that matter most.
